Camp Carter offers a variety of meaningful volunteer projects that support our mission and enhance the experience for campers, guests, and staff. Whether you're looking to engage with youth, contribute behind the scenes, or lend a hand outdoors, there's a role for everyone. Below are our current volunteer opportunities: Greeting & Guiding Groups Help create a warm and welcoming environment by greeting school and retreat groups upon arrival and assisting with wayfinding across camp. This role is vital during Outdoor Education (OE) sessions, typically weekdays from 9:00 AM–2:00 PM. Volunteers are needed regularly throughout the school year. Assist with Meal Service Support our kitchen team by helping serve meals during OE lunch shifts (11:30 AM–12:30 PM) and other retreat programs. This is a great way to contribute during short, high-impact windows. Trail Clearing Join us in maintaining safe and scenic trails by helping remove debris, trim overgrowth, and improve pathways. Ideal for small groups, this project is flexible and best suited for weekends or OE off-days. Handy-Man / Honey-Do Tasks Put your fix-it skills to work! Volunteers assist with light maintenance tasks such as repairs, installations, and general upkeep. These can be scheduled flexibly or as part of monthly workdays. Manual Labor Projects Help keep Camp Carter beautiful and functional through hands-on tasks like painting, power washing, leaf blowing, and more. These projects are great for groups and typically scheduled on weekends or OE off-days. Administrative Support Assist our team with essential office tasks such as scanning, filing, shredding, and donor thank-you calls. This role can be done on-site or remotely and is perfect for volunteers who prefer indoor or flexible work. STEM or Nature Activity Volunteers Lead engaging, short-form educational activities for youth during OE sessions. Volunteers facilitate hands-on learning in STEM or nature topics, weekdays from 9:00 AM–2:00 PM.
Greeting & Guiding Groups Ensure timely and friendly guest reception for OE groups. Improve guest navigation and reduce staff time spent on wayfinding. Maintain a consistent volunteer presence during OE sessions (target: 2–3 volunteers/day). Assist with Meal Service Support efficient meal distribution during OE and retreat programs. Enhance camper experience through timely and organized meal service. Reduce kitchen staff workload during peak hours (target: 2 volunteers/meal). Trail Clearing Maintain safe and accessible trails for campers and guests. Complete trail maintenance on at least 80% of camp trails each season. Engage volunteers in 2–3 hour sessions to cover priority areas (target: 3–5 volunteers/session). Handy-Man / Honey-Do Tasks Complete minor repairs and maintenance tasks to improve camp infrastructure. Reduce deferred maintenance backlog by 25% annually. Host monthly workdays with targeted task lists (target: 4–6 volunteers/workday). Manual Labor Projects (Painting, Power Washing, Leaf Blowing, etc.) Improve camp aesthetics and functionality through regular upkeep. Complete 10+ beautification projects per season. Engage larger volunteer groups for high-impact workdays (target: 6–10 volunteers/project). Administrative Support Increase operational efficiency through document management and donor engagement. Complete 100% of scanning, filing, and shredding tasks within 2 weeks of assignment. Make donor thank-you calls within 48 hours of gift receipt (target: 1 volunteer/day). STEM or Nature Activity Volunteers Deliver engaging educational content to OE participants. Facilitate at least 2 STEM/nature sessions per OE week. Support curriculum goals through hands-on learning (target: 1–2 volunteers/activity).

Volunteers are vital to our operations; without them, we could not deliver on our mission the way that we do. That being said, we kindly request at least 24hrs notice should a volunteer need to cancel or reschedule their commitment.
